Houdini Stop Chest Strap
Houdini Stop Chest Strap
What is a Houdini Stop?
The Houdini Stop Chest Strap is a safety device designed to prevent your child from slipping their arms out of a car seat harness. It consists of two clips connected by a length of material that attaches to the existing harness straps, keeping them securely in place and reducing the risk of your child wriggling free.
What size harness does it fit?
The Houdini Stop is compatible with any single-layer harness up to 38 mm wide.
Is it safe?
Yes. The Houdini Stop has been rigorously safety tested at the Autoliv Test Facility in Melbourne, Australia, meeting the AS/NZC 1754 standard. Tests have confirmed that the Houdini Stop does not interfere with harness performance or move upward to contact the throat area. In certain scenarios, it is designed to come apart for added safety.
Is it legal?
Yes. The Houdini Stop has been reviewed and approved by ACRI as a legal aftermarket accessory. Although there is no mandated safety standard for this specific product, it is permissible to use on a wide range of harnesses. The manufacturer has stated their intention to apply for a standards marking once available.
Can it replace an existing chest clip?
Yes, it can be used as a replacement for an existing chest clip, but not in conjunction with one. Ensure any old chest clip is fully removed before using the Houdini Stop.
Will it work for my little Houdini?
The Houdini Stop has a proven success rate of over 95%. Most young children lack the strength or dexterity to undo the release mechanism, making it highly effective. However, it is not completely inescapable, as adults or older children must be able to release it in an emergency. Many parents report that their children grow fond of the Houdini Stop and even insist on having it fastened.
